Since the end of the 1970s, attention has appeared as a new form of rarity, moved ‘from the pole of production to the pole of reception’ [Yves Citton]. If in the past, it was necessary to pay to have access to resources, today they are often ‘freely’ accessible, but we pay for this freedom with our attention. The latter, quantified, represents a new form of economy. The Festival de l’inattention The Festival of Inattention explores the different polarities of attention and inattention by investing the public space around Glassbox through stealthy works. In the gallery are presented invitations to go and see if art is elsewhere.Every evening, the public is invited to talk with the artists in a local bar.
The confrontation with the work is reconfigured; the spectator has to go in search of it, accept to miss it, make a mistake or come across it by chance. Either there is nothing to distinguish the work from an everyday event, or the proposal draws the public’s attention to what they usually don’t notice. Artists thus invest what constitutes this ‘new horizon of capitalism’. Doubt is established and the meaning given to perceived things is set in motion again.INFO
