________ ( Is(it)land ? )
Parisian launch of Existe-t’Île ? – Manuel#3
Living in a time suspended between two waters, for this Manual #3 we seek the insular paradox between France and Switzerland.
Through the islands, walls and walkways of the sea: a horizon within our reach. The island is the image of another world, a mysterious retreat, full of myths. From Alcatraz to Bermuda, passing by the Caymans, these stretches of land surrounded by the sea are both a place of refuge and a place of conquest. Charming paradox, the ambivalence linked to their autonomy stimulates our curiosity. Taking the shape of a virgin territory or a forbidden zone, whether it is that of a permissive discovery, or Atlas of an anti-world, the imagination to which the island territories refer is rich of Elsewhere.»
As a utopian zone of a world disconnected from civilization, it becomes the symbol of an emancipated autonomy, a land of autarchy resisting consumerist forces, a playground for an aspiring Robinson… The island is a space of (borders and) gaps, characterized as a breach, a possibility to work in a different way.
For this issue we invite you to submit an image, drawing, text, photo… that explores this notion of insularity. Isolating a shape from its whole, making the space autonomous, describing this remote connection of the island with its surroundings, or reflecting the ambivalence of an autarkic experience, are some of the many possibilities.
Ideal space, shelter to reach, the island can also be an image, it is physical as much as fictional, it localizes a place, a zone apart and not very accessible, – it exists in the middle of time, The possibility of an island -.

________
Manuel is a proposal.
Manuel is an adjective, a common and proper noun.
Manual is a paper object.
Manuel is a travelling platform that is fed by the different actors and places where each issue brings it and constitutes exchanges between different countries. It is through the geographical partnership between the City of Lyon and the Lake Geneva Arc (Lake Geneva) that this proposal for the third edition of Manuel was born.
MANUEL #3
The Lemanic Arc is an urban area located around Lake Geneva and made up of the cities of Geneva, Lausanne and Vevey, and corresponds to a utopian concept, that of ” Lémania “.
The “Grand Lyon”, on the other hand, includes 58 municipalities, of which the city of Lyon is the main nucleus.
On the occasion of this issue, Manuel will invite artists from Lyon and “Lémania” – from Lausanne, Geneva and Vevey – to a series of exhibitions and residencies between France and Switzerland.
They will in turn produce new works on the poetic and timeless subject of insularity.
